On Coloring—An Exhibition on Contemporary Art History and Coloring (3)

This will be a colorful exhibition of works by over 25 local and international artists who pay homage to contemporary artists and thinkers from the likes of Diane Arbus, Donald Judd, Eva Hesse and Joseph Cornell. This will be the third installation of Catherine Haley Epstein’s on-going Coloring Project since 2007.
Luke’s Frame Shop will display the exhibition of beautifully colored posters from tracings found in Catherine Haley Epstein’s coloring book
In a True Democracy the Many are Obligated to the Few. The exercise in coloring is a gesture to distill art and art history, to dialog about lineage, and to play with the seriousness that is “Art”.
Proceeds from the sale of the works and coloring books will go to Portland Creative Science School’s arts programming.

What is a reason you get up in the morning?
is an interactive exhibition that investigates our motivations to get up and brave the day ahead. Visitors to the gallery are invited to participate by answering the question on small cards with the option of adding their finger print and name. They may then hang their card amongst the other answers on the gallery walls. New cards and various writing utensils are provided. You can complete your card at the gallery or take your time and bring it back at a later date.

Mia Reiko Braverman began collecting the answers while living in the Bay Area in 2007. The cards were first exhibited while she was living in the Kochi Prefecture of Japan. The collection has since grown to over 1,200 cards. We hope you’ll join us and make a card to add to the collection or just peruse the many answers.
